Hello sophomore families,

Before I jump into the details, I want to acknowledge that the timing of the dance, fundraisers, and other events this year isn’t ideal, and I know it may feel like a lot all at once. I’m sharing the information early in hopes that it will make things easier to plan for compared to last year. If everyone is able to help with just one small thing, it really adds up and helps make sure a small handful of families aren’t carrying the entire load.

Please also know that I’m working with the cafeteria to help with the breakfast, and I’m personally doing what I can to offset the impact on families for the dinner and dance. Hopefully it will all work out for the kiddos! 😊

Dinner Dance

Theme: Under the Sea

Date: Saturday, March 28th, 6 to 9pm

Place: Ellinwood Country Club

Tickets are going on sale next week for $10 during both lunches. The freshmen advisors will be in touch with you about food and remaining decorations. I’ve taken care of a lot already and I am hoping for a few more things to fall into place before we reach out!

Bunny Breakfast

Class of 2028 Fundraiser

Date: April 4, 2026

Time: 8 to 11am

Place: AHS Cafeteria

We will be doing the traditional pancake breakfast, along with some activities for the littles. I have students who have volunteered to wear a bunny costume for pictures, and we’ll have coloring pages and egg decorating available as well. We are also planning an egg hunt with prizes, although I’m not yet sure if the courtyard will be available.

I’m working with the cafeteria on the breakfast itself, and the sign-up for volunteers and food/material donations is open, just click on the link above.

Family Bingo Night

Class of 2028 Fundraiser

Date: April 8, 2026

Time:

Place: AHS Cafeteria

We are planning a nacho bar and Family Bingo Night, similar to what we did last year. The sign-up for volunteers and food donations is open, just click on the link above.

I did not include prizes in the sign-up yet. We will need a mix of smaller prizes and a few larger ones. Last year we had small toys for some of the games, and larger prizes included things like gift certificates to local businesses. I haven’t had a chance to fully think through that part yet, so please let me know if you have ideas or any connections that might be willing to donate!

Domino’s Fundraiser, April 6-17

The students will be selling cards for $20 that allows the bearer to get buy-one-get-one large pizzas until the card expires. We make $10 on every card sold.

Wendy’s Night, TBD

I haven’t had a chance to reach out yet about doing a Wendy’s night during or after the break, so stay tuned! Or if you have time to do this, please let me know!

I think those are all the updates I know about right now. Please let me know if you have any suggestions, questions, or concerns. Hoping April is a profitable month for our kiddos!

We wanted to give everyone as much advanced notice as possible. Based on the weather forecast for Saturday morning, our Saturday rain date does not help. Therefore, our graduation ceremony will take place on Friday at 7pm. If inclement weather, we will move to an inside ceremony.

Please note: For 9th, 11th and 12th graders, there will be a two hour delayed opening with regular classes for all beginning at 9:40 AM. The buses will only operate at the normal hours. Students may arrive before 9:40 AM, as they will be provided a study hall in the cafeteria while MCAS testing in occurring.

On Tuesday, April 29th, Athol High School hosted the Early College Academy New Student Welcome and Orientation, bringing together students and their families to unlock their vast potential for a bright future. The evening commenced with an inspiring welcome address from Principal King, who encapsulated his remarks with "nothing comes by chance; the amount of effort, commitment, and dedication that you put into being an Early College student, will be the result you have earned." This thought-provoking quote set the tone for a night of boundless possibilities. Over dinner, distinguished student ambassadors, Emily King, Raydin Sousa, Hayden Barrieau, Logan Cormier, and Aaron Ouellet, shared invaluable insights and advice with incoming students and their families, exploring critical topics such as effective communication with professors, study habits, and navigating the transition from high school classes to college classes. The discussions culminated in a resounding message of empowerment, urging students to seize opportunities and reach their full potential. Students and their families then attended two informative breakout sessions, "Getting Started with Early College" and "Early College Expectations and Opportunities," expertly facilitated by Jaclyn Mickiewicz, AHS Class of 2027 Guidance Counselor, Thomas Shamgochian, AHS College and Career Coordinator, Erika Puccio, MWCC Early College Academic Counselor, and Fernando Garcia, Fitchburg State University Director of Early College. The overarching theme of the evening reinforced the importance of embracing opportunities, preparing for success, and staying committed to achieving excellence, echoing Thomas Edison's profound words, "We should remember that good fortune often happens when opportunity meets with preparation."
