Mrs. Cole

Dear Students and Families,

I want you to know how much I miss each and every one of you. I hope you are happy and keeping healthy and look forward to when we can learn together again. Please look for weekly activities under your assigned color blocks. I will check in with you twice a week….I’m really looking forward to speaking with all of you. If you have any questions or concerns, I am available via email or phone.

Parents, please follow the link below to a video a recorded that will help you understand the basics of phonics and assist in helping you to help your children if they are stuck on words while reading. This is an overview. More detailed videos on the phonetic concepts your student is working on, will be posted in the next few days under your student’s color.

I have had a lot of friends and parents of students messaging me about how to help their children when they come to a word they don’t know. A lot of people fall back on saying “guess”. Even if you are not sure how to help, please don’t tell you reader to make a guess…ever. Instead ask them to sound the word out. I am putting together a series of videos to help the parents of my students. They will be tailored to the concepts that their children are currently working on. But I will share them here too in case they can help other parents. ARRSD families I will also be linking to the Title 1 page and to my page on the Online Learning tab of the ARRSD site. Tonight’s video is a general overview of Phonics. For parents of my students who may be seeing this, this will be in your email from me tomorrow along with other materials your child will need this week. Remember, you can always call me!
