Ms Verock –

Have a great summer and keep being creative!!!

Love Ms. Verock xoxox

Hello friends we are in the home stretch!

A simple task for this week-BIRDS. I love them and I love being outside watching birds, Have you seen any birds outside while you are playing? Grab some paper and a pencil and draw your favorite bird(s). I will post a picture later this week so make sure you check back. .

Remember to add color and send me a picture of your awesome artwork πŸ™‚

Surprise ferocious creatures!!!!

Friends Wednesdays’ art project is to create a surprise ferocious creature. By using a piece of paper and crayons or markers you can create a creature that looks cute but when you open the paper it is really ferocious. See the image below.

Friends keep in mind that you do not have to draw a fish you can also draw a bear, bunny or dog. You may need an adult to help you fold the paper but once it is folded draw your character and then open the paper to reveal the inner ferocious creature.

Any questions please email me and always please share your work with me. <3

I talked to a art teacher friend of mine and she shared an art lesson with me that I absolutely love so I am going to share it with you!

The lesson is called Household Color Wheel and as the name implies you are going to make a color wheel from things in or around your house. This is great review of the color wheel-

the three primary colors are red, blue and yellow

the secondary colors are green, orange and purple(violet)

Basic Color Wheel
Color wheel using things in or around your house

So now go and see if you can find atleast 6 things, one for each color, of the color wheel.

Once you find the 6 things be sure to arrange them in the correct color wheel order.

If you can take a picture and share it with me that would be AWESOME! If you can just make the color wheel with things you find that is great too!

Hello friends! As you are all well aware the weather is finally AWESOME and I am sure that you are playing outside a whole bunch.

I would also bet that when you are outside you see alot of bugs so I found this cute art/craft art project.

While you are outside find some leaves, twigs, flowers and anything else natural in your yard. Using glue and a piece of paper create a bug like the ones above and don’t forget to share it with me!!!! Can’t wait to see what you make πŸ™‚

Hello art friends!!! Did you know that yesterday was my birthday? It was and I am not going to tell you how old I am. But what I want you to do this week for enrichment is to make me a cake. Not a edible cake but if you had to design a cake for me what would it look like? Would you put shoes on it?

Start with a piece of paper and a pencil sketch out what the cake would look like and then add color, (I love color).

Be creative and please share it with me!!!!

MONDAY MAY 18,2020

Happy Monday friends! You may not know this about Ms. V but I LOVE shoes. I have a room in my house that is just for shoes.

This weeks enrichment will be to grab your sneaker or a favorite shoe, a piece of paper and a pencil.

The way that I have taught this lesson for years is to begin by laying the shoe on its side on the paper and trace it. That will give you an accurate size and its an easy way to start. Once you have the outline of the shoe you can then go ahead and add all the details and lastly the color.

I have included two step by step examples if you you are having a hard time with the tracing.

As always keep being creative and PLEASE share your work!

my princess puppy

Wednesdays’ enrichment I wanted to go back to the art style of Pointillism- that is when you make art using dots of colors.

So start with a sketch and a landscape would be the easiest-meaning land, trees, sky, flowers etc.

Then if you have paints you can use a Qtip or a pencil eraser or even your pinky finger to make dots on the paper filling in what you sketched. Make sure that your dots do not touch-they can be close but should not touch.

If you do not have paints you can make small dots with crayons, colored pencils or markers.

Do the best you can-Be creative and don’t forget to share your work!

MONDAY MAY 11, 2020

Hello friends and happy Monday! I saw a movie yesterday and you might have seen it, “Dr.Doolittle” If you haven’t seen it please don’t worry because I will sum it up for you. A doctor talks to animals. Now this idea is actually an old concept and there have been plenty of movies that animals talk. I personally love any movie with talking animals. <3

SO how does talking animals apply to you? Well I was thinking about how humans put human traits on animals and then I thought of a portrait artist who uses animal heads but human bodies.

Here is an example

The activity it to imagine and draw your pet; dog, cat, fish, bird, snake, with a human body. What character traits would your pet have? For example my dog acts like a princess so she would be wearing a dress and crown.

Would your pet wear a crown, a baseball hat, sunglasses, headphones?

Would your pet wear a dress, t shirt, suit?

Don’t for the color and details!!! Any questions please ask and if you can please share your picture. I will share one of my princess doggy!

Looking at art part 2-

The painting I have attached below is a famous painting called “A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte” by George Seurat on display at The Art Institute of Chicago.

Take a close look. Does it look like any other painting that you have ever seen? What makes it different than other paintings that you have seen? What do you like about it? What do you not like about it?

When do you think this was painted and why?

Is there anything else that you notice about this painting you would like to share?

I would love to see your responses! But if you just look at the painting and talk to a friend, brother, sister, mom, dad, etc that is also awesome!

Keep being creative-

If you went to Jatte Island on a sunday afternoon what would your picture look like? Draw something and share.

Be creative. Be well <3

MONDAY MAY 4, 2020

Looking at art: May 4th is a BIG day for any Star Wars fan. Are you one? I know that I am as well as Mr. T

I had originally pulled a fine art painting for you, my friends, to look at and discuss. However seeing as today is May the 4th I picked a piece that is considered concept art, which means that when movie makers are about to make a movie they call in artist to read the script and come up with some ideas or concepts of what is going on in certain scenes etc.

When you look at the Mandalorian concept art below by Christian Alzmann think about the 5 W’s (Who, what, when, where and why) because all art is trying to tell a story or send a message so can you tell what the story is or message the artist was trying to send.

Now some of you may have seen the mini series on Disney but even if you haven’t not to worry because even in the mini series not everything is clear cut and defined.

SO what is going on in the picture? and May the 4th be with you πŸ™‚

Hey friends I bet you have some toilet paper tubes kicking around. I think it would be fun if you turned it into an animal, super hero or ninja (just to name a few)

Check out the pictures and see what you can do!!!!

Crayons, markers, paint and glue-use what you got and be creative! <3

Shadow Puppets! Using a flashlight or light in the room try using your hand to create animals.

Can you tell a story or a play for your family using the animals that you have made?

More advanced friends can make the shape out of paper and then hold it in the light making a shadow and then tell a story/play.

Check out the pictures

April showers bring May flowers…….Lets see if you can draw some beautiful flowers to brighten your day and the ones around you.

Monday April 13, 2020

I hope that you all had a nice Easter or atleast had some time to relax.

This weeks enrichment is to make a treasure map! Using a piece of paper and a pencil along with your imagination create a treasure map.

My younger friends map will have a starting point, ending point and a few details. Don’t forget to add some color.

My older friends start, end, LOTS of details and some color.

If you use a paper bag, draw on it and then crumple it up it will look real. Even if you are using plain white paper when you have drawn and added color crumple it up and it will also look real.

Check out the pictures for ideas.

Have fun and if you can send me a picture πŸ™‚

Wednesday April 8, 2020

I know that we all have tried tracing, either in the last assignment with the sun or on our own. This takes it to something that you are familiar with…your hand! So grab some paper and make a bunny.

Art enrichment: We are suppose to be getting some nice weather so this activity is going to get you outside or at least near a bright window.

K-2 Grab some paper, a pencil or crayon and a shape (circle, square, triangles)

Find a sunny spot inside or if you can go outside that is great too.

Set the shape on the paper so that it makes a shadow from the sun or a light source (lamp)

Then trace that shape then add color.

For the more advanced artist 3-4 use a small toy, a little car, an lol doll, etc. and trace the shadow. Add color

Lastly for the advanced, 5-6, grab some aluminum foil and try to make a person or maybe an animal, stand it on paper and trace. Don’t forget to add color!

Friends you do not have to just do the grade level suggested, for example I know that there are really talented artist at all grades and ages. So I would suggest trying something simple first and then try a toy and then the foil.

I love to see your artwork and I will post a picture of my shadow drawing.

Keep on being creative <3

just letting all my friends know that I am drawing, are you?

my plane

Art enrichment: Make a Collage

A collage is an assortment of pictures and words that over lap each other on a piece of paper to create a bigger picture or convey a message.

I would like you to find old magazines, newspapers, old coloring books or pictures and make a HAPPY COLLAGE. You will need a glue stick or white glue or maybe some tape.

NO worries if you don’t have materials then let’s see some free drawings. I know you love to free draw so draw what you want and show it off!!!!!

Monday March 30, 2020

I said I would do a drawing of one of my favorite cartoon characters. I hope you like it πŸ™‚

Enrichment for Monday: My friends always want to make paper airplanes. Here is your chance!!!! This activity will help you practice making good folds in paper, creativity decorating your airplane and lastly explore science by seeing how far you can make your plane go.

  1. Fold the paper in half vertically.
  2. Unfold the paper and fold each of the top corners into the center line.
  3. Fold the top edges into the center line.
  4. Fold the plane in half toward you.
  5. Fold the wings down, matching the top edges up with the bottom edge of the body.
  6. Add double stick tape to the inside of the body. The finished plane should look like this.
Make 5 basic paper airplanes

So have fun making a really great plane. I love seeing your pictures so keep sending them πŸ™‚ !

Art Enrichment: I am a couple days late but I think you should try to draw a super hero and favorite cartoon character.

Try drawing a character from your favorite show or favorite book/comic book. Make sure to include all the details like belts, boots, hair, etc. Lastly add color. *I know we have done an activity similar to this together with the FUNKO POP characters but this time you don’t have the blank character to draw on so the challenge is can you do it on your own? I KNOW YOU CAN!

THEN try drawing your OWN unique cartoon or superhero. Be sure to not only add the details but also a background (where your superhero or cartoon character lives or hangs out, ie: pineapple under the sea). Lastly add color! You could even add a sidekick or two.

I hope that you and you family has created a space to display all your little projects πŸ™‚ <3

****On Monday I will post my drawing of my favorite character and my own unique character*****

Art Enrichment activity: I would like for you to try rubbings. πŸ™‚

Rubbings is an art form that has been around for ages. The idea is to explore textures by using paper and a crayon or pastel. By rubbing a crayon over an object with a piece of paper in between the crayon and object/surface will produce a fake/faux texture.

Kindergarten find one surface or neat object that a piece of paper can be placed on and using a crayon run over the object/surface so that a texture comes through onto the paper. What does it look like?

Grades1-4 :Every grade level find the amount of surfaces or objects. For example First graders use one surface or object to try a rubbing, second graders find two objects/surfaces to use on the same paper. Third graders will find three objects or surfaces and fourth will find four; so on and so forth. Thus the 2-6th grade will have a very cool collage of rubbings and the K-1 will have experienced a new art form. πŸ™‚
