Happy New Year!!!
I hope that all of you had a restful Winter I break. In December, Raider Nation on the Move was a tremendous success. Ninety-five percent of the senior class completed at least a two or four-year college application. There is a large display in the front hallway displaying the results. Please stop by and review it. The AHS guidance department and Mr. Latulippe from Mount Wachusett Community College lead the way encouraging our seniors to begin this important process.
As the New Year begins, Winter sports are in full mode and spring musical planning has begun.
On January 19 there will be a School Council meeting at 6:30pm in the Library Media Center where we will review the Program of Studies for the 2017-2018 school year for any changes.
January also marks the close of Semester I, midterm and final exams will take place on January 20, 23 and 24, please refer to the schedule below. Grades close on January 25. Report cards will be issued to students on February 3, 2017.
Attention AP Students
This year, the fee for full-pay students is $84.00 per exam. In an effort to keep costs as low as possible for families, we are not collecting the additional administrative fee of $9.00 for each exam.
For families meeting low-income or other eligibility requirements, the reduced fee this year is $53 per exam—a substantial increase from past years. The College Board will again provide a $31 fee reduction per exam. However, there are changes at the state level. In 2016, under the historic AP Test Fee Program, participating states contributed $38 in federal funding toward each AP Exam taken by a low-income student. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts supplemented the federal funding with their own state funding to further reduce the AP exam fee for low-income students. However, beginning with the 2017 AP exam administration, states will no longer be able to secure funding for low-income students’ AP Exams through the federal AP Test Fee Program.
The Athol-Royalston Regional School District is looking into other sources of supplemental funding, but as of this date, the reduced fee stands at $53 per exam for the reasons stated above.
