ATTENTION 6TH GRADE PARENTS
IMMUNIZATION / PHYSICAL EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS

New school immunization regulations throught the Massachusetts Department of Public Health became effective last year, requiring all students entering the 7th grade to have 2 doses of varicella vaccine and 1 dose of Tdap vaccine (Tetanus/Diptheria/Pertussis). Most 6th grade students have not received this immunization. As required by state regulations (102 CMR 7.07 and 105 CMR 220.00), the Massachusetts Department of Public Health established immunization requirements for attendance in public school. PLEASE BE INFORMED THAT EXCLUSION FROM SCHOOL WILL RESULT IF THESE REQUIREMENTS ARE NOT MET.

Periodic physical examinations are critically important for all children and adolescents for preventative, diagnostic, or corrective purposes. Massachusetts General Law c. 71, s. 57 and related amendments and regulations (105 CMR 200.000-200.920) also require physical examinations of 7th graders. The objective is to understand and follow up on health conditions that may adversely affect the student’s well being and ability to learn. A physical exam should be done by your primary care physician. If needed, Dr. Egan, the school physician, will be available to perform this exam next year with your permission.
