As this school year is rapidly coming to the halfway point, report cards for second term and first semester final exams were issued on Friday, February 3rd 2017. If you did not receive your child’s report card, please stop by the main office. After we return from February vacation, the 2017-2018 course selection sheets are being prepared. Please be on the alert for them. Please review and discuss with your child the importance of classes for college and career readiness beyond Athol High. If you need additional support with course selection, please contact your child’s guidance counselor. Seniors remember to complete those scholarship applications and turn them in on time.
On February 22, 2017, AHS hosted the Project Purple basketball game. The Project Purple is an initiative sponsored by the Herron Project (THP). The former NBA star, Chris Herron established, “THP Project Purple initiative was developed to break the stigma of addiction, bring awareness to the dangers of substance abuse and encourage positive decision making to navigate life’s challenges.” Mr. Heron spoke to the students two years ago and we are continuing the work this year. Find more information here for medical addiction treatment programs that enable you to become healthy, With the assistance from the Athol Y, Project 84.org, Red Raider Productions, AHS Band, Athol Athletic Association and the students from both Athol High School and Ralph C. Mahar Regional High School, we hope to have a very successful home and home basketball games at AHS. Thank you, Project 84.org, Red Raider Productions and the Athol Y for decorating the gym and front hallway of the high school. The AHS Band will play throughout the games which contribute to a positive and competitive atmosphere in the gym. Any Athol High School student wearing purple was be granted free admission.
With March 1st just two days after February break, I wanted to preview several events during the month of March. First, there are several dates for MCAS testing. The MCAS March retest for ELA will begin on March 1st and will conclude March 3, 2017, only selected students will take the ELA MCAS retest. The MCAS Math retest will begin on March 6th and will conclude on March 7th, 2017. ELA MCAS testing for grade 10 will begin on March 21st and conclude on March 23rd, 2017.
The 2017-2018 Program of Studies was recently approved by the Athol-Royalston Regional School Committee. With that being said, the guidance department has scheduled March 8, 9, and 10th as class scheduling meeting days. Classes with meet with the guidance staff and review the new Program of Studies and begin the course selection process.
